Rubber O-rings

Rubber O-ring (also known as O-ring seal, rubber cord ring, or metric/imperial O-ring) is the most widely used static and dynamic sealing element worldwide. With its simple circular cross-section, the O-ring achieves perfect sealing through proper compression (typically 15–30%) between two mating parts. OKIN manufactures over 20,000 standard and custom O-rings in NBR, FKM (Viton®), EPDM, Silicone, HNBR, FFKM, AFLAS, and CR to serve automotive, hydraulic, pneumatic, medical, oil & gas, and water treatment industries.

Manufacturing Process of High-Performance Rubber O-rings:

High-performance O-rings are usually manufactured by compression or transfer molding to ensure material integrity and dimensional accuracy. Throughout the entire production process, all O-rings are subject to strict quality control to ensure resistance to thermal degradation, chemical attack, and mechanical stress.

Importance of High-Performance Rubber O-rings

Standard rubber compounds can quickly deteriorate under extreme heat, oil exposure, or chemical interaction. High-performance rubber materials (such as Viton® O-rings or FFKM) extend the service life and reliability of critical components, reduce maintenance costs, and ensure safe operation in challenging conditions.

Features of High-Performance Rubber O-rings

  • Excellent thermal, chemical, and UV resistance
  • Low compression set for continuous compaction
  • Excellent mechanical strength and elasticity
  • Available in custom durometers and sizes
  • Ideal for both static and dynamic seals

Material Options for High-Performance Rubber Parts

Silicone Rubber Silicone provides outstanding thermal stability, functioning effectively from -60°C to +230°C. It is non-reactive, flexible, and suitable for clean environments like food, pharmaceutical, and electronics industries.
Viton (FKM) Viton is a premium fluoroelastomer known for its excellent resistance to fuels, oils, and aggressive chemicals. It performs reliably under high pressure and temperature, making it ideal for aerospace, automotive, and petrochemical applications.
Fluorosilicone (FVMQ) Fluorosilicone combines the heat resistance and flexibility of silicone with the fuel and solvent resistance of fluorocarbon rubber. It maintains excellent performance across a wide temperature range (-70°C to +200°C) and resists non-polar solvents, oils, fuels, and even some hydraulic fluids. Due to its premium performance, it is often used in aerospace, military, and high-end automotive systems. While more expensive than standard elastomers, FVMQ is a top choice for critical sealing tasks in chemically aggressive and thermally challenging environments.
